Mostly to keep from committing myself somehow. Utg ponders and goes all in. First raiser calls. I still don't believe him, but I know the all in player has me beat. I fold.
All in player has j6. Other player (who initially made it $150) has jk.
This was perhaps the best hand of poker I have ever played.

K10s on the button. Many players. I limp.
Flop k q 8 checked to me. I bet $35. Three players.
Turn 8. Checked to me. I bet $55. Player to my right raises $85. I play out the hand in my head. Essentially I only have a king. But what does he have? He doesn't have ace king or he would have raised preflop. I don't put him on a big hand or he would have bet on the flop. Even tough I am new at the table, I stare him down and think I detect a tell of weakness. I put him on a tiny king and decide he has done the same reasoning as me and realizes I'm weak too. So in the worst he gets a chop unless he can push me off the pot. It's essentially a freeroll raise for him. I look at my stack and realize if I call this bet I will be pot committed for the river. I do the same move back on him and go all in. Maybe I can push *him* off the pot. He calls and has me covered.
River is a ten, but that doesn't help me because he has ace 8. Craaap. He called $35 on the flop with bottom pair. Craaap

At the end of the hand the new player has pocket nines. The other player has pocket aces. The loser goes nuts accusing the other player of slow rolling over a mere $100. The phrase "you're a bitch" was uttered. The loser is now standing up and very very agitated. He is carrying a plastic shopping bad and pulls out two stacks of $100 bills with bank paper wrappers around them and throws them on the table for all to see. More utterances of "you're fucked". The floorman finally steps in and escorts the fellow out. They take his picture and bar him for a month. The other player is kind of milk toast and wants a security escort when he leaves.

A very strange hand ...
Kd 8d in middle position. I call. No raise. Several players.
Flop Ad kh jd bb bets $15 I call. Heads up.
Turn blank I am at the opposite end of the table from the other player and I hear "all in". I say "call", put all my chips in and the dealer gives me an "all in" button. The other player says call. Pandemonium ensues. The other player had said "check". Another player at the table but *not* in the hand was making merriment and was the one who said "all in". The floorman was called who ruled I had only called a check and neither player in the hand owed any money in the pot.
The dealer dealt the river (another jack) and the other player (from a foreign land and who apparently did not understand the floorman's ruling) pushes all his chips in and turns his cards over before I get a chance to decide what I'm going to do. I beseech the fellow to take back his cards before I see them, but he is insistent. I look and see he has a broadway. I fold as I probably would have even if I had not seen his cards. Once again pandemonium ensues and the player renews his protests (in vain).

The language at the commerce club and casino is colorful at best. In contrast to pechanga, here there seem to be no restrictions. However .... there was a very big pot (perhaps more than $600) where the flop had two kings and one player was ahead with kq while another was behind with k4. (There was a third player who was along for the ride.) With all the money in on the turn, the dealer put out a four on the river. The loser turns to the dealer and says "fuck you, dealer." A floorman was watching the action and told the player he had to leave. The player was unrepentant. "What would you do in those circumstance??" he asked. As he walks away he defiantly gives the dealer the bird. Gotta love it.
(In actuality, there was no penalty. The offender milled about for awhile and eventually sat down in another game.)

I only made one small mistake but enough to cause me rhe tourney. I called with a marginal hand (ace 9) and bet the flop turn even though I hit nothing on the board. But he called and then folded when he bet the river.
After that I was crippled and couldn't make it back.
Lesson learned: if the bet is going to cripple you, go all in. What's to lose?

More details

Yesterday I played in two tourneys at the TI. I placed fourth in the first
one. Ended up $85 after tax tip and entry fee. I did make a mistake in my
end game strategy. There are two reasonable possible alternatives:
1. try to wait it out. Good plan since I was second chip leader. No one was
sitting back. Everyone was playing
2. try to negotiate a chop. Not a bad strategy either. Low risk which is
fine by me.

I decided to go with #3: play like you're the short stack even though you're
not..
I had 22 UTG and went all in. The BB (real chip leader) called with KJ (not
too smart on his part either) and won the race.

I did have one great hand: pocket jacks. I put two players in before the
flop but there were five players seeing the flop. I flopped a jack and put
the other two all in at that time. There was a flush draw on the board and
you know with gour callers anything can happen. I had to walk away from the
table to await the outcome. I persevered and knocked four people out at once
(no bounty).

Decided to come back for the bigger ($125) tourney in the evening. The
structure was incredibly great. There were three tables (30) plus 6
alternates. After three hours there were still 14 players in. The bad news
was that I was on the short stack and couldn't get a hand to save me. I was
out as #11 (paid first four).

Flop rags he bets one third his stack. I ponder and go all in. Dumb. He is saying he has a pocket pair. I believe him. If he has kings or aces I'm dead. Anything else I'm a 4 to 1 dog. But will he fold? At this point that is not a reasonable expectation. He has QQ and I get an ace to win, much to his annoyance.

some special hands

1. AK off in SB slow play several players
flop an ace and check
BB takes the bait and bets. It's folded to me and I raise pretty big putting him all in. He calls and is very surprised when he discovers what I have.

2. 10 10 on button
Several callers and I make it $13. Everyone folds until one player makes it $40.I ponder. I decide he has big cards and also that I can outplay him on the flop. I call.
Flop 9 9 5. He checks and I bet $40. He folds.

3. J 10 off cuttoff. It's folded to me so I try to steal witha $13 bet. BB decides to go after me with $40 total. Even though I know I'm seriously behind I decide to call to save face.
flop 10 7 2. He goes all in for $30 and I call. He has two overcards and my pair holds up.

4. AC QC late position make it $13 several players
Flop KC 7H 5C player bets into me and I call.
Turn 5D he checks and I bet $50 as a semi bluff. He ponders, flashes a small king and folds. Whew! I did not try and bluff him after that because I was sure he would look me up.

5. A6s three players, one whacky. I'm last.
Flop gave me a four flush. whacky player bet $20. call call.
Turn gives me a the nut flush. whacky player checks and other player now bets %40. call call
River blank player bets $45. I would like whacky to call, too. I think whacky *might* call but now that I look back he was whacky but not a calling station. In any case I make it a $100 (raise $55). Whacky folds and other player calls. He has the king high flush. I'm surprised. If I had known that I would have bet more knowing he would have called a bigger raise (probably).
